A new concept in Prevention , Protection and Preservation of Cement Paint

 

Calcium Stearate "CEMPROTECT" – An Introduction

Calcium  Stearate  "CEMPROTECT"  is  a  product developed by  Shrihari Laboratories (P) Ltd,  Kota.  It  is an outcome  of  rigorous  efforts  and  continuous Research &  Development.  This product has been developed by technical experts working in the cement paint industries.

Calcium  Stearate  "CEMPROTECT"  is  a  free flowing  superfine  white  powder, having highly water repelling properties and is most suitable for cement paint formulation.

Calcium Stearate "CEMPROTECT" is a special grade of waterproofing compound  for cement paint formulation which  protects  the  coating  from water penetration and thus enhances the long term durability in cement paint coatings. Ordinary Calcium Stearate  may impart waterproofing property to some extent, but may not give long term  durability.  In fact,  Calcium Stearate  is an  important component  of the  formulation of  the Cement Paint which protects the coating.

Functions of Calcium Stearate "CEMPROTECT"

1. "CEMPROTECT"  being  highest  pure  and  fine  grade, helps in coating each and every particle of cement and other extender materials.

2. Coated  particles do not come in contact with water or moisture due to high repellency by "CEMPROTECT".

3. "CEMPROTECT" highly  protects the  coating of  cement paint from moisture penetration. The life of cement paint coating is reduced  considerably if not protected from moisture. The penetrated moisture invites bacteria and  thus  due to  germicidal action  there is algae  and fungal growth. This phenomenon weakens the coating and thus either coating comes out in the form of flakes or converts into black moss.

4. As "CEMPROTECT" coats each and every particle of cement paint so the coating becomes water tight. This property  of  water tightness  does  not allow  moisture/water to penetrate inside the film and hence germicidal action does not take place.

Three exclusive features of "CEMPROTECT"

Properties of "CEMPROTECT" can be explained by 3 P’s - Prevention, Protection and Preservation.

Prevention : The water repellency properties of "CEMPROTECT" -

- Prevents  powdered  cement  paint  from  hardening  and  thus  the problem of lump/granule formation is not observed during storage.

- Always keeps the material fresh and thus no deterioration in quality takes place.

- Imparts better shelf-life.

- Prevents the coating from de-adhesion.

Protection : Use of "CEMPROTECT"

- Protects  the cement  paint coating from moisture penetration and thus no algae or fungal growth takes place.

- Increases water tightness and thus life of cement paint coating.

- Improves brushability.

- Imparts smooth and uniform consistency to wet mix of cement paint.

Preservation :  The pot-life  of wet mix of  cement paint is increased considerably by use of "CEMPROTECT". The shelf life is also increased to a great extent.

Comparison of "CEMPROTECT" and Stearic Acid

Many  cement  paint  manufacturers  use  Stearic Acid  for  water-proofing. The characteristics of both and their advantages and disadvantages when used in cement paint are compared in following table:-

Stearic Acid

Pure White in color with assured color consistency. Light brownish to dark brown in color. Color also varies from lot to lot.
Superfine    Powder.   Mixes    easily    with    cement    and  other ingredients.  Calcium  Stearate  "CEMPROTECT "  is  a Calcium based product   like   other   cem   raw  materials  e.g.  Calcium Chloride, Calcium   Hydroxide   (Hydrated   Lime)   etc.  and  is ,  therefore, compatible with Cement which is also Calcium based. Available   in   flakes   form. Proper  mixing  does  not  take  place. Moreover  Stearic  Acid  is non Calcium based and un-compatible with Cement.
Coats  each and every particle of powdered material. The coating is performed just by simple mixing at room temperature. Coating takes place only by vapourising action on a relatively high temperature.  There  is  always  a risk of  "no vapour formation" till ball  mill is heated  sufficiently  and temperature is raised above the melting point of Stearic Acid.  This results into high residual content, which is largely un-reacted Stearic Acid.
No chances of de-adhesion. Oil  contents  in  Stearic  Acid  may  cause  de-adhesion of cement paint coating.
No interference in pigment dispersion. Interferes  in  pigment  dispersion ,  so pigment dispersion  takes a very long time.
Cement paint coating remains water repellant for a very long time. Over  a  period of  time, water repellency in cement paint coating is lost.

Packing

25  Kg  Polythene  Lined  HDPE Bags.  Liners are specially stitched to outer HDPE Bags from inside bottom. This prevents liner from falling down itself with material in the ball mills.

Recommended Dosage

We recommend a dosage of 0.5% to 2% for extremely effective results.
